Welcome

“Tell me what you plan to do with your one wild and precious life!”

-Mary Oliver

Do you sometimes feel unsure which way to go, overwhelmed by feelings, or stuck in old patterns that no longer serve you? Therapy can help you to clarify your vision, experience greater freedom, and create your best path towards wholeness and fulfillment. This may mean confronting old feelings and out dated beliefs, learning new skills, grieving losses, or connecting with a community, a spiritual path, or y our own wisdom.

Who I work with

I work with individuals and groups to address the following issues:

  • Trauma: Recovery from childhood abuse, domestic violence, and crime
  • Grief and loss
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Caregiver issues: Having a family member with an acquired brain injury, dementia, major mental illness, or developmental delay
  • Coping with major medical events, including terminal or life threatening illness or long term disability
  • Recovery from addiction
  • Sexual orientation and gender identity
  • Life enrichment: Enhancing your creativity, managing stress and transitions, increasing relationship skills, and clarifying your vision for the future.

I welcome people of all cultures, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations.

How I work with clients

I often work with people who grapple with hard questions to which there is no one “right” answer. "Why is life unfair? Should I forgive someone who has broken my trust? If I was abused in my family, should I stay in contact with them now, even if they are still unhealthy?" I offer a non-judgmental atmosphere in which each person can seek his or her own answers.

Therapy is a co-creation, and I work with each person to find what "speaks" to him / her. For some people, that's talking, mindfulness practices, EMDR, or guided imagery. For others, it’s art, writing, music, or drama therapy. For most, it's a unique combination. I have invested in learning techniques that I believe are among the "power tools" of psychotherapy, including EMDR, psychodrama, hypnotherapy, and creative arts therapies in order to help people achieve their goals effectively. Using creative, client centered methods accesses parts of the brain that can't be reached through words alone, and puts people in the flow of their wisdom and creativity, from which solutions to problems can emerge.

I feel especially attuned to issues of grief, trauma, depression, and the spiritual seeking that often follows those experiences. As a family caregiver, I understand the joys and frustrations of being a caregiver. Finally, I am energized by working with people who want to end a cycle of abuse.

Prior to moving into private practice, I worked as a clinical supervisor. I have been practicing therapy for over 10 years. I start with the person's strengths, and move at the individual's pace, offering "user friendly" information along the way.

If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
